Discover Rafting in Yosemite

Rafting can be a great way to take in the scenery in Yosemite Valley. Spend the day floating on the river and enjoying the scenery. Land at one of the sandy beaches for a mid day picnic or a cooling swim. This sport can usually be enjoyed from May to July in the valley between Stoneman Bridge and the Sentinel Bridge beach area, depending on the conditions that exist for that year. Equipment, including rafts, paddles and flotation vests can be rented at Curry Village. You can also use the South fork of the Merced River near Wawona for rafting.

For the more adventurous traveler, whitewater rafting is also available on the Merced River and Tuolumne River outside the valley. They are both designated Wild and Scenic Rivers.

The deep river canyon of the Merced River provides endless scenery along with the thrills of churning waves and exhilarating drops. This is an intermediate level Class IV river. There are a number of guided rafting tours available for real whitewater thrills. Guided tours can provide lessons on whitewater rafting techniques, and take you out for short half-day or day trips or more daring multi day trips.
